The wrong way round…

Hitchhiking to Hampshire

How queer, a lift to Lanchashire..

This is the first draft of my journey.  There are large gaps in the schedul due to 20/20 and Pr0 40, as I wanted to keep this all about first class cricket.  By that, I mean four day championship cricket.

There are some teams I’d love to see more of, including my home county of Essex, but no, I get lumbered having to watch Middlesex 5 times in one season.  The plus side to this, is that I get to see Iain O’Brien spangled on Sodium Diclofenac all over the country!

County Opposition Date Location
Essex Hampshire April 9th Chelmsford
Middlesex Glamorgan April 15th Lords
Surrey Glamorgan May 4th Oval
Kent Warwickshire May 5th Canterbury
Sussex Middlesex May 6th Hove
Hampshire Somerset May 10th The Rose Bowl
Somerset Yorkshire May 17th Taunton
Gloucestershire Middlesex June 28th Bristol
Glamorgan Middlesex August 16th Swalec Stadium
Worcestershire Surrey August 17th New Road
Northants Gloucestershire August 18th Northampton
Leicestershire Surrey August 24th Grace Road
Warwickshire Essex August 25th Edgbaston
Derbyshire Middlesex August 26th Derby
Notts Yorkshire September 7th Trent Bridge

  2. giggles… enjoy your summer! Bring your umbrella!

    • That is one thing I will definitely be carrying at all times. That and an axe.

  3. Yeah! Nice one!

Is it going to be one of the last seasons where you could even try to do this without having to go abroad!??! I hope not, but the fuckers are out there with a vengeance!

    • Let’s do it kid! Hoping that we have an Indian summer, so those last games in September are shorts weather!

  4. that hampshire game at the rose bowl is just after my birthday. result.

(it’s mr smith, this is my wordpress name)

    • Nice work Johhny Smith Andy Neptune! We’ll have a little session for your birthday then!

  5. Gotta cut out those typos, you’re not Jrod.

Seriously, I can’t get you into Trent Bridge, but my brother lives next door to the ground and would be happy to give you a couch for a night or two.

    • Editors, my friend, editors. I make miles less than the Australian boy usually, just out of practice!

Well that might work.. Let me see how I get on, and I’ll be in touch.

  6. Come on Middlesex :)

    • I’m going to be seeing a helluva lot of them. Plus side IOB, down side, bloody middlesex.

  7. Started supporting them when I was writing about cricket for a job and we had to make county cricket more interesting. Can’t remember why I chose them…think it’s cause I got ripped off after first deciding to support Essex…something about being an Essex girl.

    • Essex Girls are good value, with a wine inside em!

  8. Son, May, August & September look pretty stacked! Bell me whenever you’re in hassle – i may just be kicking about near by.

Oh and remember your Hitch Hikers GTTG tip from Ford Prefect – take a towel!

    • I thank you kindly, you sneaky fucking russian

  9. I’ve a sofa for any midlands based shenanigans, esp warks. It’s out in the rain and has a number of additional lifeforms on it but it is, by jove, a sofa nonetheless.

    • Chris, I may have to take you up on that offer! It’ll be no worse than the homeless sofa surfing I’m doing at present..

  10. [...] can help (especially in the Midlands and the south west), look at the fixtures and my planned route here, and you can then email me at [...]

  11. Good luck mate. Absolutely superb idea. Would love to help out too – but probably too far north to be useful…
